Still here - selling Christmas trees!

Thank you to my followers wondering about my silence for the past month. We're staying outrageously busy with this Christmas tree lot. I spend from 15 minutes to 2 hrs every night after our 9pm closing reconciling the paperwork & money. Whew! Some serious bookkeeping skills are needed — & mine were a tad rusty. Decades ago, I became interested in computers & refused to be intimidated by a hunk of metal & plastic. BUT. . .cash registers seem to be a whole nuther chunk of metal & plastic. We haven't quite come to a meeting of the minds yet & it continues to befuddle me, especially when we're really busy. Jeff sez it's my happy little fingers. But this makes for some late nights, which leads to sleeping in as much as possible, & starting the whole process over again the next day [no days off]. I've almost had to make an appointment just to go potty! And although Jeff goes to the warehouse to get more trees regularly, I only get away from the tent to do laundry. Yuk, poo! And I haven't even had the time or energy to take Kira for a walk the past month. She spends her days on a long lead, sleeping under the trailer or alerting at all the passing vehicles. She's such a good watchdog!

Overall, it's been a fun experience though & we're seriously thinking about coming back next year. We'd definitely have to pass on doing this again if it was repeated in only a month or two later (maybe 5 or 6 even), but hopefully we'll forget the pain by next year. LOL The company is great to work for, very supportive, & rather forgiving of our rookie mistakes. This will be easier in many ways if we do it again next year. Just like working at a campground, I really enjoy talking with all the people. My mom is glad we're under a tent though so my tongue doesn't get sunburned!

And I've learned that winter in San Antonio is like a very long Fall in Missouri. We've had many days in a row of cold rain & drizzle, but I could do without the high humidity. Makes me miss Colorado. . .well, except for the SNOW thing.

OK, for a short note here, I'm getting long-winded. The company fed us on Thanksgiving Day, & all the lot managers will have a final meeting & meal on Christmas Day too. We have mixed feelings about returning to Missouri in January (for a late holiday). One of the major reasons for going full time in the Casita was to stay out of the cold, snow, & ice. At least we can carefully pick the day to return to MO.

This blog will be updated more frequently when we sell out of Christmas trees!

  1. Maybe I shouldn't say this .but so far we have escaped the wrath of the snowman here in Mo. But it can happen anytime before Christmas day as you well know.Sam Antonio can be pretty cold in the winter as well. We hope you have a great Christmas. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...

  3. We are working for Amazon but the Christmas tree thing sounds interesting. Amazon is also very hard work and long hours.

  4. Hello! Not sure if I've commented before but I've been following your blog for a while now - I plan on going full-timing in a Casita in a year or two.

Thanks for posting about this, see I'll need to earn money to pay my way on the road too and now I can add Christmas tree selling on the list as another possibility (Amazon was already on it). :)

  6. I'm so glad I discovered your blog! Don't have my Casita yet, like so many others it is still a dream to be realized. Fortunately in the meantime there are blogs such as yours to follow. Thanks for the great post!
